Photos of Phones and Phonographs (occasionally)

It’s a sign!

its_a_sign_medium

Does what it says on the tin.

No Speeding!

13MPH_medium

I don’t think this sign actually refers to Miles Per Hour, but I’m not sure what it does refer to. Anyone got any ideas?

I’ve found them!

“They” said that unicorns didn’t exist. “They” were wrong!

The sign says so.

Honorable mentions to football for dogs, IN! and shut that door.

Instructive

That told you then didn’t it. You and everyone else standing at that bus stop.

Drink! More! Beer!

I’m not sure what this photo is trying to say…

The Last Egg

I’ve only got one egg left, which is a shame. I wanted to make a cake, and the shops will be shut now.

Kodak Folding Brownie

This camera is one of my longer term restoration projects. It’s currently unusable. It’s totally light tight but the optics are all cloudy. It’s worth next to nothing, I could probably pick one up from ebay for about a tenner but that’s not the point.

I’d love to get it restored and back into service because it once belonged to my Grampy. The older I get, the more I wish he’d been around long enough for me to really appreciate him. By all accounts he was a hoarder, a tinkerer and a “builder of things” – all traits that I can very much relate to.

I have a handful of negatives that he shot with it, and I’d like to revisit the same locations and take the same shots – with the same camera – 50+ years on. It feels like the right thing to do.

Today’s “Honourable mentions” are the lens and frame counter from my rangefinder – a camera with much less personal history – but crystal clear optics!

Bristol Beer Festival 2008

Pint_o_Mild_medium

Pretty much my one chance a year to drink mild in my home town, and I do like a nice mild.

This particular half is “Gunpowder Mild” from the Coach House brewery in Cheshire – and the beer I ended up voting as my festival favourite.

The Bristol Beer Festival is a pretty large beer festival, there were about 800 people for the “lunchtime” (11am-4pm) session today in the Brunel Passenger Shed at Temple Meads – you can get some idea of the scale from this shot which shows about 2/3 of the beer racks – with the cider racks way off in the distance…

More shots to follow when I’m past the hangover

Spanner

second_spanner

It’s a spanner. On a piece of newspaper. Mainly because the best I could come up with at lunch time was a picture of some cigarette butts

I’m not totally convinced this is a significant improvement.

Tomorrow, I’m spending the day at a beer festival – so don’t go expecting greatness ;-)

Tree Rat

It’s not great shot. Shutter speed wasn’t quick enough, focus isn’t *quite* on target, my lens is fuzzy at that focal length, the background is too cluttered and the composition is boring.

I’m not in the mood for re-shooting anything else though, so it’ll have to do.
