Desperate 11pm Photo

Today was one of those days that evolves rather than being planned. As such I got to 11pm with no photo, so just before I hopped in the car to go home from a rather amusing night of comedy at Oppo – I took this shot of the University Chemistry building. It’s not bad considering I had no tripod.

I can’t stand the rain…

… on my window.
The weather’s been horrid all day.
Grey, cold, wet, BORING!

Missing String

I pulled out my guitar tonight for a bit of a noodle, having not really picked it up in about 3 years. It seems I’m missing a string.
Photoshop quicktip time – Before dropping this shot down to black and white, I split it into RGB channels, one per layer. Hid the red and blue layers, and got a much more contrasty shot. I guess this is the post-processing version of putting a filter on your lens.

Unexpected Rocks

I went for a walk today. It started out as a short walk through Penpole Woods on my way back from the post office.
It turned into a 4 hour excursion up to Blaize Castle. Gmaps Pedometer says that the interesting part of my route was just over 5 miles (I’ve omitted the walk from my house to the post office, and the last leg home)
I’m not a particularly slow walker, but I did stop for tea and sandwiches and spent a lot of time admiring various views!
About half way through, I came across a small pile of rocks by a bench in the woods. I couldn’t help myself.

Daytrip to Clevedon Pier

I’ve got today and tomorrow off work, to catch up on some gardening and make it easier to get through non-white-background-week by going to interesting places to take photos.
This afternoon, I popped down to the coast to Clevedon Pier. To cover the costs of the restoration and upkeep they ask for donations. In return for a suitably sized donation they’ll put up a brass plaque.
Hidden amongst the birthdays, wedding anniversaries and memorials to deceased loved ones – I found this gem. I quite like the thought of Sarah dragging unsuspecting Andy out for a walk on the Pier one sunny summers day and letting him find this message shortly before pouncing on him!

Purple Plants are Perfectly Pretty!

They’re purple, and pretty. Nuff said.

Rooftops and chimbley pots

I thought I’d kick off “It’s not a white background” week with a sunset. Unfortunately the sunset was less than interesting tonight, so I trotted upstairs and took a photo of a chimney pot. The post title is a nod towards an old Lenny Henry sketch about growing up with a Dudley accent.

Jianzi?

Wikipedia seems to suggest this is called Jianzi – all I know about it is that my parents brought it back from a trip to China, and it’s a game played with your feet (youtube) – it appears to be similar to footbag/hackysack
I’ve been posting rather a lot of pictures with a white background recently. The novelty is wearing off, so this week I shall attempt to shoot a whole week of photos with real backgrounds!

“Rising Universe” by Angela Conner

My home-from-home is a little market town in West Sussex called Horsham. In the middle of the main shopping precinct is this kinetic sculpture called “Rising Universe”.
Wikipedia says:
“The fountain and consists of a large globe mounted on a pillar which fills with water pumped from below. As the sphere fills, it descends slowly over a period of approximately five minutes, after which the water is released into the pool below, it quickly rises up, and the cycle starts over again.”
I say:
“It looks like some kind of menstrual grapefruit”

Last Post

I like postboxes, I think it’s the colour.
In other news, I’ve just spotted (and fixed) a problem with my zenphoto database which meant that every image added recently had an id of 0 – so changing the title of one changed the title of all of them.
Sorry if that confused anyone (what do you mean you didn’t notice?)
