Lost and Found

Little Girl Lost

I found a roll of exposed film in the back of a camera I bought back in May.  The house in the picture is in Horsham, and I recognise the street.  I’m tempted by the idea of doing some digging to find out who the people on the film are/were.  I think the girl pictured above would just about be in her 50s by now.

I was a bit unsure if I should count this or not.  I didn’t take the photo, I did the developing a few weeks back, and have been pressing the negatives to flatten them.  Tonight I did the negative scanning so I made the “image” today even if I didn’t expose the film.

I think I’m going to count it as I don’t really have anything better to offer today.  Apart from this boring white background shot of the ammeters I’m going to build a clock out of.

Dripping Passion

Raindrops - 2008-07-10

flower seed pod.

At least, I think it’s a variety of passionflower, and I think it’s a seed pod.  It may just be a flower with no petals.

Growing Up

Growing Up - 2008-07-09

Seems I forgot I’d put some baking potatoes in the larder.  Oops.

A bit of a (b)rush job

I got home from work, took the cat to the vet, came home, she sulked, I started playing with the arduino again (fixed my rollover problem – now having serial port problems), she then became quite vocal about how I’d taken her to have needles stabbed into her and ignored her all evening and that is clearly “not on”, so I spent an hour playing with the cat listening to the radio and then a thought wanders across my brain…

“Bugger. It’s 23:40 and I haven’t taken a photo yet.”

My evening in miniature

Freeduino - 2008-07-07

I’ve spent all evening playing with my new Freeduino microcontroller development board – with the aim of building myself a better version of this clock. (Better in that it does cool things like light up ‘n’ stuff)

That little green LED on output 13 flashes once a second to tell me the clock is running.

Minor problems encountered so far:

  1. The on board oscillator features some truly shocking clock drift (about half a second out after only 1.5 hours)
  2. My code will crash in a crumpled heap after 34359738 milliseconds (about 9 hours 34 mins) when the timer wraps round

Problem 1 can be solved with a little added fudge factor (and eventually some crafty NTP-over-serial sync shenanigans) and Problem 2… well. That’s a little more tricky. I’ve seen some suggested fixes, but they’re uglier than dark macro shots of boring circuitboards.

Sparkling Water

Sparkling Water - 2008-07-06

I know what I wanted to achieve, and where I was trying to go with this.  This isn’t quite what I had in mind, but was just before I knocked the glass over and spilt water into my keyboard – effectively calling a halt to the days shooting.

It’s a good job it’s a Model-M keyboard and can take that sort of abuse.  I’m going to take it apart and clean it now though, just incase.

Late Night Shopping

Late Night Shopping - 2008-07-5

Not great, but certainly not bad for a 1/6th second exposure using the handle of a shopping trolley to steady the camera.

I had wanted to go out and take more interesting photos today, but it rained all afternoon so that plan went out the window and we stayed in playing with the cat instead.

Empty Track

Not the most inspiring photo ever taken.  It’ll have to do though.

Moo!

Moo Cows! - 2008-07-03

I got very little sleep last night, and was dead on my feet all day at work. Despite throwing cafinated beverages down my throat like there’s no tomorrow I got to 4pm and couldn’t think in a straight line – so bailed out of work early.

I couldn’t face cycling through traffic on the way home, so went the long way round (11 mile route along a cycle path which is mostly along a river and past fields of cows) I stopped loads and shot quite a few photos – including half a roll on the Holga, which I’ll have to process at some point.

The photo above seems to be popular with my test audience, but I was happy with these three and I think todays panorama works well enough to be included in full:

Penny – TTV

Penny TTV - 2008-07-02

I did tell you I named her Penny didn’t I?

Anyway.

The cogs have been turning, and I think I might have an idea or two for a photography project which will get me out of the house, shooting people, and playing with lights. I don’t want to say too much incase it doesn’t come off but I’m quite excited about the possibilities!
