Finding his photographic feet, one photo at a time

This isn’t my best work. The colours are boring, the feet are lost in shadow, the face is washed out, the composition isn’t even all that great.

However I’ve spent the last hour and a half trying to shoot other things and am just not getting anywhere – so I’m calling it a night.

Tomorrow is, as they say, another day.

Funny. I was just going to say that I like this one.

The colours are subtle, I didn’t know there were feet so I didn’t miss them, how much relevant information is there between his snout and his eyes anyway, and the composition is perfectly good.

Also I like how the horizontal blurry lines of the waves give the impression of speed.

We must find a way to define who of us has more say when it comes to photography, because when it comes to this shot, one of us is clearly wrong.

It’s funny, because looking at it this morning I think I’m inclined to agree with you.

I think my view of it last night was largely coloured by the hour and a half I’d spent trying to reshoot. Perhaps I should get into the habit of doing all the post work and then leaving the images on one side for a couple of hours before uploading.

I guess some things just improve with time!

As a side note, I really should get around to upgrading the gallery software which I’m using. The new version comes with a voting/rating system which might be an interesting way of deciding this sort of thing. You lot are probably better judges of what works/doesn’t work than I am anyway!
