Birthday Boy
Today was my Dads 65th birthday. A birthday he shares with Michael J Fox and George Stephenson (of “The Rocket” fame)
Here he is opening presents while my niece Hayley watches over his shoulder.
Photogreeking follows:
I thought I’d try something a bit different for taking the photos, so I hoisted a flash up on a stand – right up by the ceiling and fired it with a radio trigger. Got some fairly nice bounced light. It worked well against the light coming in the window which is acting like a rim light.
If I was doing it again I’d probably add a second flash as the light got a little one sided shooting elsewhere in the room.

Your best pic for ages. It makes me realise that ‘most’ of your pics are of ‘objects’, and few have people in them. Gosh, what a deep realisation.
I’ve noticed this as well. I’m not actually particularly good at taking photos of people, the communication side is the bit I find difficult – which is why when I do take photos of people, it’s generally family or friends.
I’ve been thinking about ways to get myself out of that particular rut though – so I might take on a 100 strangers style project in parallel with this one. Taking photos that involve talking to complete strangers has to be a good thing… doesn’t it?
