Sunset Balloon

Sunset Balloon - 2008-09-14

I don’t like this one, the colours look dirty, it’s hazy because it’s shooting almost into the sun (and my lens hates that) and the quality’s just not good enough.

But I’m exhausted after a days manic concentrating, so it’s all you’re getting.

But the composition is nice and the silhouette works really well with the shrubbage and the balloon. The weird colour of the sky emphasizes the unrealness of the image. I like it.

    Yes, those are words.

P.S. Buy or borrow a 50 mm (or a 30 or whatever in that range, as long as it is fixed) lens and use that exclusively for a while, concentrating hard on composition and getting close enough. Too often zoom lenses make photographers lazy, which leads to their photos being duller than they have to be. I’m not saying this is the case with you, but shooting with a fixed lens is a good exercise anyway, and it may well open your eyes in your lens-buying dilemma. If I took my exif data and made that same chart, I’d guess that around 90 % of the pictures would be taken at the wide end (24 mm equivalent) of my camera. But then I have no shame in shoving a camera in the face of people. Here endeth the sermon of the day.

Funny you should mention the 50mm prime.
I’ve decided that I don’t quite have the funds in place to buy the 70-200mm this month (I may decide to wait until the end of November as that will be a year since I bought the camera, and conveniently I’ll have had two tax rebates and a payrise by then!)
Having recently played with a Nikon 50mm F1.8 – I’ve been thinking about popping down the road one lunchtime this week and picking one up, as they’re reasonably cheap. Once I’ve got one, I had planned on using it exclusively for a bit.
