The End

The End - 2008-12-31

That’s it!  Done.  Over.  Fin.

I’ve taken and published a photo a day for the whole of 2008!  That’s 366 photos (bloody leap years) Wow.

A huge thankyou goes to everyone who’s been following this, feeding me ideas and giving me support, especially on the days when I didn’t feel like taking a photo.  I feel I’ve learnt a lot over the last year, and my skills have certainly improved (although there is still a lot of room for further improvement!)

I can have a day off tomorrow!  That’s going to feel weird.

Where next?  I’m not sure.

I think I’m going to continue to take a camera with me everywhere I go, and this photoblog will continue in some form – although I’m going to aim for quality rather than quantity and only publish images I’m truly happy with.  I may start posting links and/or some more wordy stuff as well, we’ll see how it goes.

My photography aims for 2009 are pretty much:
- More Portraiture.  I need to learn how to work with models, it’s a gap which I’ve struggled to fill.
- Keep working on the lighting.  I’ve still got so much more to learn about lighting!  I really need to hook up with the Bristol Strobist crowd (Less gear, more brains!) – they’ll probably be able to help with that first aim as well.
- Update my workflow.   The Gimp has served me reasonably well for the last year, but I’m frequently hitting it’s limits.  I lack a decent RAW processing solution, and my “file by date” approach is making it hard to find the shots I want in the archive.
- See if there’s a way I can feel at home on flickr.

Any thoughts/comments/favourite images from 2008 – hit the comments.

Happy new year everyone :-)

Happy New Year Paul, sorry I can’t offer you any software advice for windows, except I hear good things about lightroom. On OSX me recommendation would be Aperture. Thank you for sharing all your photographs with us, they’ve certainly been an insipration to me. -Colin

That’s it – 366 pictures! You officially win.

Well done. Last year Miku said that my pics got better when the “every day” monkey was off my back, which I guess was true. Now it’s your turn to prove his theory right.

    No pressure.

@Colin – “sorry I can’t offer you any software advice for windows” – That wouldn’t help much anyway, I’m mostly linux (apart from my work laptop – which is a macbook pro) – I suppose it would help a bit as at least I can run stuff with WINE.
Say – isn’t it your turn for a photo a day now? You’re one of the photogs I know who hasn’t tried it yet ;-) Go on, you know you want to!
@Jani – I’m hoping Miku’s right, having that little bit more time to think about the photo (both before and after pressing the button) should help a lot.

Thanks for the comments guys :-)

Congratulations Paul, I knew you could do it. My favorite has to be 9th Dec “Roofspace”, but only because I’m in it!

Well done Paul for achieving your goal! I had a look through them all the other day and it surprised me how many I had remembered which must be a sign of a good images. My personal favourite was your self portrait ‘Self’ 27th May,

    Cheers
    Andy

But wanting to, Isn’t the same as doing it. I did consider it, but never started it on 090101, so um, yeah. I suppose I can start it today, but I warn you, it’ll be a lot of Macro and Wildlife.
I suppose I also need to get a decent blog software or something that will let people comment,…

I know you were looking at software Paul, currently I’m deciding between, flickr, fotopic, and my own server, in order of control, any thoughts?
