I done a picture!
I’ve spent the evening charging batteries, and playing with camera kit. It feels good to be fiddling with this stuff again.
The above shot is an overused pose, and I’ve overcooked it with the light at the left of the frame, blowing out my hand and half my face, but at least I got my camera out of its bag!
With a bit of luck, I’ll have sussed out how I want to light the shoot I’ve got in mind for the Tuesday Summer Challenge in time to actually shoot it – Although looking at the dates, it’s going to be a squeeze as I’ll be shooting 8 days before the deadline – doesn’t give me much space for a getout plan!
Lighting setup info:
Background is a white sheet I bought from Woolworths when they were closing, threaded onto a PVC pipe and supported by two light stands and some spring clamps. It’s got a Vivitar 283 at full power pointed at the wall behind the sheet, acting as a great big reflector and evening out the background light. There’s a second 283 on a stand camera left, going through an shoot through brolly, and bouncing off a car sunshade reflector camera right.

Rope
I’ve been a bit slack recently. This is the only non-baby-related image I’ve shot in the last two months which is even halfway worth showing anyone. It’s the red rope on the astroturf surrounding the outdoor stage at the National Theater in London.
In gardening news (because I know you all love me banging on about my garden!) I’ve just strung up my onions – 9Kg in total, which is more than I’ve ever grown before.
Next year – I’m aiming for 12Kg.

They’ve found it!
About 2 weeks ago, one of my pictures was stolen from it’s hanging place in the public access computer room where I work.
This morning, I’ve had an email forwarded to me from our security department saying that it’s been returned! They’ve caught the students who pinched it, and are pursuing it through university disciplinary procedures. It sounds like they’re not going to press criminal charges, which I think is a shame – would have been an extra ego boost that would!
We should have the picture back on the wall within a couple of weeks – although I think we’re going to be looking at more secure ways of hanging it – and I’m tempted to put a note on the wall behind it saying “Oi! Put it back you theiving scrote!”

Tuesday Challenge – “Pink”
Plan A failed because I couldn’t find a shop with trashy enough pink lipstick.
Plan B failed because it turns out a pink grapefruit is more red/orange than actual pink.
So, My entry for Stu’s Tuesday Challenge this week is probably this rather dull photo of a flower (yawn!)
