Happy Headshots

Mick and Myra

I shot this series on Good Friday, but for some reason hadn’t gotten as far as mentioning them on the blog.  Mick and Myra were good sports, and given that it was my first time shooting people, I’m quite pleased with the results!

Plan A was to use the garage doors outside the house, as they’re painted and peeling in an interesting way.  It was trying to rain though, so that didn’t sound like a fun option, on to Plan B…

Which was to go for a walk around a local cemetery as it’s all falling apart and interesting.  That fell through because it turns out that the cemetery is mostly brown and grey at this time of year, and really not inspiring.  I might pop back there in the summer though, when the trees have filled out a bit.

Plan C was in my sisters the front room, with a quick bash at some kind of portrait lighting, in a bit of a rush because J was arriving in Bristol soonish and didn’t have a front door key!

It’s not a set up I’d use again without tweaking it (I’d put a reflector on the left to fill a little, and move away from the wall to kill that shadow, and possibly throw in a rim-light) but as it’s the first time I’ve really lit people it was a learning experience!

Thanks again to Mick and Myra for being good sports, and Mary and Mark for setting it up.
