One Light Week – Part 3

DSC_9975_watch_medium

I’m pretty proud of this shot, and I think it’s going to be my Tuesday Challenge entry.  The limitation I set myself was “single light source” – and yes, that’s lit with a single Vivitar 283, and no ambient light contributing to the photo.

Try and reverse engineer it in your head, and I’ll pop a spoiler after the break…

I’ll be honest, I cheated, but only a bit.

It is only one light, and a bunch of reflectors – but I can’t claim the idea for the setup as my own.

I pinched the idea for the setup from John Domingo – who wrote it up much better than I could (or more accurately, can be bothered to!)  I made a few variations though.  Using a mirror as a reflector camera left made for a very harsh highlight on the watch face, so I replaced it with a white reflector – and I had to flag the flash a bit on the near side to stop it flaring into the camera.

Hell, I didn’t even change the colours! But then, I couldn’t find a nicer combination given what I had lying around to use as a background.

Even so limitations were imposed, and problems were solved.  Close enough for my book, and my first entry to the Tuesday Challenge for a while.

nice one there LP, is that a flash head on the bottom of the bezzle?

Heh! I can see the reflection you mean, but no that’s not the flash head. I think that’s the widget which is supporting the red filters (it’s actually a cardboard and black straws gridded snoot thing)
