Blackwoods Gin

DSC_0047_Blackwoods_Gin_medium

I think this is as close as I’m going to get to my mental image of this bottle of Blackwoods Gin. The label is certainly better lit than the previous version thanks to an improvised softbox made from a pillowcase, and a couple of windscreen reflectors.

The label on the back of the bottle is a bit distracting, and if I was treating this as a commercial (or even portfolio!) shot I’d probably soak it off – but I can’t bring myself to do that to a real bottle.

Anyway, itch scratched. On to the next idea.

It has a vaguely dreamy feel to it, as if the bottle is magically there. Maybe this is what the second bottle looks like after you’ve already drunk the first :)

Nicer than my most recent lighting attempt, but then I would choose a clear liquid :)

@Colin but you didn’t spend two evenings and almost 90 frames setting up that shot :-)

I opened the bottle BTW, and it’s a really nice gin. Very dry, but without the bitterness you so often get from a London gin. Subtle, gentle flavours – almost floral, with a real hit of elderflower on the nose. I could probably drink this one almost straight, possibly just with a smidge of water to open it up a bit further. Full on “GnT with lemon” would certainly drown it.

@LP nope, I only tend to give myself 20-30 mins :)

your description of the gin reminds me of whisky tasting notes.
