Last zoo trip of the year

J and I went to the zoo in the afternoon on New Years Eve. I’ve got just under a month left to run on my membership, and based on how much fun I’ve had out of it over the year I think I’m going to have to renew.
Despite the cold weather, there were a surprising number of animals up and about. Mostly they were indoors, and my D80 isn’t exactly great in low light. It’s 4 years old now, and while camera technology has moved on a lot in that time, I really can’t bring myself to spring for a replacement body!

Santa Specials

This one isn’t at Bluebell, this is at The Dean Forrest Railway. They were preparing 9681 to be the Santa Special train, and were pumping steam through the heaters in the carriages to make them all nice and warm (because it was a bitterly cold day!) Looked rather pretty I thought.

These chaps were getting ready to fit the “Santa Special” sign to the front of the engine. I really should make an effort to learn more peoples names at the DFR, but then learning peoples names isn’t quite as interesting as getting hit in the face by exploding components from the PETS equipment which feeds the phones on one of the level crossings (which was what I spent the rest of the day doing)
I’d have taken a photo of that, but the batteries died in my camera.

A trip to The Bluebell

Once again I seem to have let things get away from me, leading to a backlog of photos for processing. These photos were shot 5th November, so it’s taken me over 5 weeks to process them. Anyway, this batch were all taken on a trip to The Bluebell Railway. They were having some kind of small engine gala day, but to be honest I can’t remember what it was about.

I’m running out of stuff to say. Chuffchuffchuffchuff woo woo!
